It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever seizes the wealth of a Muslim by swearing a false oath will meet Allah in such a state that Allah will be angry with him. And in confirmation of this, Allah revealed this verse up to the end: "Those who exchange Allah's covenant and their oaths for a small price..." After this, I met Hazrat Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him), so he asked, "Which hadith did Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate to you today?" I told him, and he said, "This verse was revealed concerning me."
