حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ , عَنِ ابْنِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ , أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أُسَامَةَ , قَالَ : كَسَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُبْطِيَّةً كَثِيفَةً كَانَتْ مِمَّا أَهْدَاهَا دِحْيَةُ الْكَلْبِيُّ , فَكَسَوْتُهَا امْرَأَتِي , فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا لَكَ لَمْ تَلْبَسْ الْقُبْطِيَّةَ " , قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَسَوْتُهَا امْرَأَتِي , فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مُرْهَا فَلْتَجْعَلْ تَحْتَهَا غِلَالَةً , إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ تَصِفَ حَجْمَ عِظَامِهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a thick Coptic sheet, which was from the gift that Hazrat Dihya Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him) had presented to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I gave it to my wife. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me, "What is the matter? Did you not wear that sheet?" I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! I have given it to my wife." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Tell her to wear a chemise underneath it, because I fear that her body parts may become visible through it."
