حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ , حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ , عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ , عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ , قَالَ : أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأُمَيْمَةَ ابْنَةِ زَيْنَبَ , وَنَفْسُهَا تَقَعْقَعُ كَأَنَّهَا فِي شَنٍّ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِلَّهِ مَا أَخَذَ , وَلِلَّهِ مَا أَعْطَى , وَكُلٌّ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى " , فَدَمَعَتْ عَيْنَاهُ , فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , أَتَبْكِي أَوَلَمْ تَنْهَ عَنِ الْبُكَاءِ ؟ ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا هِيَ رَحْمَةٌ جَعَلَهَا اللَّهُ فِي قُلُوبِ عِبَادِهِ , وَإِنَّمَا يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الرُّحَمَاءَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) that once (the Prophet’s granddaughter) Umaymah bint Zaynab was brought to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and her soul was departing as if it were in a waterskin. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “What was taken is Allah’s, and what was given is Allah’s, and everything has an appointed time with Him.” Tears began to flow from the eyes of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Seeing this, Hazrat Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, “O Messenger of Allah! Are you also weeping?” He replied, “This is mercy which Allah places in the hearts of whomever He wills among His servants, and Allah shows mercy only to those of His servants who are merciful.”
