حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ , حَدَّثَنِي عُمَارَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ طُعْمَةَ , عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ , قَالَ : قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ غَنَمًا لِلضَّحَايَا , فَأَعْطَانِي عَتُودًا جَذَعًا مِنَ الْمَعْز , قَال : فَجِئْتُهُ بِهِ , فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنَّهُ جَذَعٌ ! قَالَ : " ضَحِّ بِهِ " فَضَحَّيْتُ بِهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed goats among his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) for sacrifice. A six-month-old kid came to my share. I took it to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! This is a six-month-old kid (can it be sacrificed?)" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Sacrifice this one." So I sacrificed that very one.
