حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ , حَدَّثَنِي الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ , عَن أَبِي النَّضْرِ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ , فَقَالَ : " عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً , فَإِنْ جَاءَ بَاغِيهَا , فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ , وَإِلَّا فَاعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا , ثُمَّ كُلْهَا , فَإِنْ جَاءَ بَاغِيهَا , فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! If I find a purse containing silver lying somewhere, what do you command regarding it?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Keep its container, its binding, and its quantity well preserved, and announce it for one year. If its owner comes during this period, hand it over to him; otherwise, it becomes yours."
