حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزَّاهِرِيَّةِ ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : قُمْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لَا أَحْسَبُ مَا تَطْلُبُونَ إِلَّا وَرَاءَكُمْ " ، ثُمَّ قُمْنَا مَعَهُ لَيْلَةَ خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ إِلَى نِصْفِ اللَّيْلِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لَا أُحْسَبُ مَا تَطْلُبُونَ إِلَّا وَرَاءَكُمْ " فَقُمْنَا مَعَهُ لَيْلَةَ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ وَسَكَتَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, on the 23rd night of Ramadan, we stood in prayer with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until a third of the night had passed. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I think that what you are seeking is still ahead (Laylat al-Qadr)." In the same way, on the 25th night, we stood in prayer until half the night had passed, then he said the same, "I think that what you are seeking is still ahead (Laylat al-Qadr)." Similarly, on the 27th night, we stood in prayer until morning, but this time the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
