Hadith 21554

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and said, "Those who lag behind in good deeds (I have) committed adultery." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him. When this happened four times, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his ride and ordered us, so we dug a pit for him which was not very long, then he was stoned. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from there in a state of grief and distress, and we set out. When we camped at the next stop, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was relieved of that state and said to me, "Abu Dharr! Look, your companion has been forgiven and admitted to Paradise."
