حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ غُضَيْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ : مَرَرْتُ بِعُمَرَ وَمَعَهُ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ ، فَأَدْرَكَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : يَا فَتَى ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِخَيْرٍ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : وَمَنْ أَنْتَ رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ ؟ قَالَ : أَنَا أَبُو ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكَ ، أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : نِعْمَ الْغُلَامُ ، وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَضَعَ الْحَقَّ عَلَى لِسَانِ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ بِهِ " .
Ghudaif bin Harith says that once he passed by Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him), and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Ghudaif is an excellent young man." Then he met Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, "Brother! Pray for my forgiveness." Ghudaif said, "You are a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and you are more deserving that you pray for my forgiveness." He replied, "I heard Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) say that Ghudaif is an excellent young man, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that Allah has made the truth flow on Umar's tongue and heart."
