حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَقْنَعِ ، عَنْ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا أَنَا فِي حَلْقَةٍ إِذْ جَاءَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ ، فَجَعَلُوا يَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : لِمَ يَفِرَّ مِنْكَ النَّاسُ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنِّي أَنْهَاهُمْ عَنِ الْكَنْزِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَنْهَاهُمْ عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Ahnaf bin Qais, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I was in Madinah Munawwarah when I saw a man whom, upon seeing, people began to avoid. I asked him, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am the companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him)." I asked him, "Then why are these people avoiding you?" He said, "I stop them from accumulating wealth just as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stop them."
