Hadith 21365

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ فِي مَسْجِدِ دِمَشْقَ ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا الصَّوْمُ ؟ قَالَ : " فَرْضٌ مُجْزِئٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is fasting?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "An obligation which is to be fulfilled."
