حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الله ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ غَزِيَّةَ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ صَعْصَعَةَ بْنِ صُوحَانَ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلَ هُوَ وَنَفَرٌ مَعَهُ ، فَوَجَدُوا سَوْطًا ، فَأَخَذَهُ صَاحِبُهُ ، فَلَمْ يَأْمُرُوهُ وَلَمْ يَنْهَوْهُ ، فَقَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَلَقِيَنَا أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ، فَسَأَلْنَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : وَجَدْتُ مِئَةَ دِينَارٍ فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا " فَكَرَّرَ عَلَيْهِ ، حَتَّى ذَكَرَ أَحْوَالًا ثَلَاثَةً ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ! فَقَالَ : " شَأْنُكَ بِهَا " .
Sa’sa’ah bin Sawhan says that once he set out with a group of people. On the way, they found a lost saddlebag in a mountain pass. One of their companions picked it up. The people neither forbade him nor instructed him (regarding it). Upon reaching Madinah Munawwarah, I met Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this incident to him. He said that he had asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Announce it for one year.” This continued for three years. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You may benefit from it.”
