حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : وحَدَّثَنِي وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، قَالَ الثَّقَفِيُّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، قَالَ وَهْبٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ : الصَّلَاةُ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ سُنَّةٌ ، كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا يُعَابُ عَلَيْنَا ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ إِنَّمَا كَانَ ذَاكَ إِذْ كَانَ فِي الثِّيَابِ قِلَّةٌ ، فَأَمَّا إِذْ وَسَّعَ اللَّهُ ، فَالصَّلَاةُ فِي الثَّوْبَيْنِ أَزْكَى .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that praying in a single garment is established from the Sunnah. In the blessed era of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to do so, but no one reproached us for it. Upon hearing this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This ruling was for a time when people had a shortage of clothes. Now that Allah has granted abundance, it is better to pray in two garments.
