حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُيَسَّرٍ الصَّاغَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، أَنَّ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، انْسُبْ لَنَا رَبَّكَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ، اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ ، لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ سورة الإخلاص آية 1 - 1 " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the polytheists said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Muhammad! Tell us the lineage of your Lord." Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed Surah Ikhlas: "Say, O Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient. He neither begets nor is born, and there is none comparable to Him."
