Masruq bin Ajda’ says that once I met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he asked, “Who are you?” I replied, “I am Masruq bin Ajda’.” He said, “I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Ajda’ is a name of Satan, so your name is Masruq bin Abdur Rahman.” ‘Amir says that once I saw his name written as Masruq bin Abdur Rahman in his register, so I asked him about it. He explained that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had given him this name.
