حَدَّثَنَا
يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ
إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا
قَيْسٌ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ
خَبَّابًا أَعُودُهُ ، وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى سَبْعًا فِي بَطْنِهِ ، وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
" نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ بِالْمَوْتِ " ، لَدَعَوْتُ بِهِ .
Qais says: I went to visit Hazrat Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was engaged in the construction of his garden. He had treated himself by cauterizing his stomach seven times and was saying: If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not forbidden us from praying for death, I would certainly have prayed for it.
