حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، وَخَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ : صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ ، فَجَعَلَ يَهْوِي بِيَدِهِ قَالَ : خَلَفٌ يَهْوِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُدَّامَهُ ، فَسَأَلَهُ الْقَوْمُ حِينَ انْصَرَفَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ هُوَ كَانَ يُلْقِي عَلَيَّ شَرَرَ النَّارِ لِيَفْتِنَنِي عَنْ صَلَاتِي ، فَتَنَاوَلْتُهُ ، فَلَوْ أَخَذْتُهُ مَا انْفَلَتَ مِنِّي حَتَّى يُنَاطَ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وِلْدَانُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading us in the Fajr prayer when, during the prayer, he was seen trying to catch something with his hand. After finishing the prayer, the people asked about it, so he said that Satan was bringing flames of fire before me in order to spoil my prayer. I was catching him; if I had caught him, he would not have been able to free himself from me until he would have been tied to one of the pillars of the mosque and the children of Madinah would have seen him.
