Hadith 20775

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَبُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْجُحْرِ ، وَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ ، فَإِنَّ الْفَأْرَةَ تَأْخُذُ الْفَتِيلَةَ ، فَتَحْرِقُ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ، وَأَوْكُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ ، وَخَمِّرُوا الشَّرَابَ ، وَغَلِّقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ بِاللَّيْلِ " ، قَالُوا لِقَتَادَةَ : مَا يُكْرَهُ مِنَ الْبَوْلِ فِي الْجُحْرِ ؟ قَالَ : يُقَالُ إِنَّهَا مَسَاكِنُ الْجِنِّ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you should urinate in a hole, and when you are about to sleep, extinguish the lamp, because sometimes a mouse drags its wick and burns the whole household. Tie the mouths of water skins, cover the drinking vessels, and close the doors at night.
