حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا ، وَأَرُدُّ آخَرِينَ ، وَالَّذِينَ أَدَعُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُعْطِي ، أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا لِمَا أَخَافُ مِنْ هَلَعِهِمْ وَجَزَعِهِمْ ، وَأَكِلُ أَقْوَامًا إِلَى مَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مِنَ الْغِنَى وَالْخَيْرِ ، مِنْهُمْ عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ " ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَمْرٌو : فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي بِكَلِمَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Taghlib that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I give to some people and leave out others, even though the one I leave out is more beloved to me than the one to whom I give. I give to some people only because their hearts are filled with impatience and miserliness, and I entrust some people to the richness and goodness that Allah has placed in their hearts. Among them is Amr bin Taghlib as well. At that time, I was sitting right in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him). I would not like to have red camels in exchange for this statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
