Adisah bint Wahban says that once Hazrat Ali came to her father and said, "Why do you not go out with me to those people and help me?" He replied, "My friend and your cousin made me promise that when turmoil appears among the Muslims, I should break my sword and make a wooden sword. Now turmoil is appearing, so I have broken my sword and made a wooden one." Then, during his final illness, he advised his family that they should give him a shroud but not put a shirt on him. The narrator says that we put a shirt on him, but in the morning, it was found lying on the wooden peg used for hanging clothes.
