حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، وَعَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِنِّي قُمْتُ رَمَضَانَ كُلَّهُ " ، قَالَ : فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَخَشِيَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ أَنْ تُزَكِّيَ أَنْفُسَهَا ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَخَشِيَ التَّزْكِيَةَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ ، أَوْ قَالَ : لَا بُدَّ مِنْ نَوْمٍ أَوْ غَفْلَةٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you should say, "I stood (in prayer) for the entire Ramadan." Now Allah knows best whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that his Ummah might declare their own purity, or he said this because there is no escape from sleep and heedlessness.
