Abu Uthman says that when the issue of Ziyad’s lineage became very prominent, one day I met Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked those people, “What have you people done?” I heard Sa’d saying that my own ears heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever, in the state of Islam, attributes himself to someone other than his father, while he knows that he is not his father, Paradise is forbidden for him.” Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I also heard him say this.”
