Abdul Majeed Aqili says that we set out for Hajj at the time when Yazid bin Muhallab had rebelled. We were informed that there was a well named Rajeeh in Aliah. When we completed the rites of Hajj, we reached Rajeeh and made our mounts sit down, then we ourselves went to the well. There, some elderly men with dyed beards were sitting and talking. We asked those people, "Is there a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) living here? Where is his house?" They replied, "Yes, a companion lives here, and that is his house." We walked to his house and stood outside and greeted him. He allowed us to enter. When we entered the house, we saw a very old man lying down, who was called Adaa bin Khalid Kilabi. We asked him, "Did you have the companionship of the Prophet (peace be upon him)?" He replied, "Yes, if it were not night, I would have read to you the letter that the Prophet (peace be upon him) wrote to me." Then he asked us, "Who are you people?" We replied, "We are from the people of Basra." He welcomed us and asked, "What happened to Yazid bin Muhallab?" We said, "He is there inviting to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." He asked, "How is Yazid bin Muhallab compared to the current ruler?" I said, "Whom should we follow, the people of Sham or Yazid bin Muhallab?" He repeated three times, "If you remain quietly seated, you will succeed." I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) on the day of Arafah standing on both stirrups of his camel. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was proclaiming loudly, "O people, what day is this?" The people said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What month is this?" The people said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What city is this?" The people said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Today is a sacred day, and this month is sacred, and this city is sacred. Remember, your lives and your wealth are sacred to each other just as this day, this month, and this city are sacred, until you meet your Lord. He will ask you about your deeds." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his hands towards the sky several times and said, "O Allah, bear witness."
