حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ , أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَسْلَمَ : " صُومُوا الْيَوْمَ " فَقَالُوا : إِنَّا قَدْ أَكَلْنَا , قَالَ " صُومُوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ " , يَعْنِي يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ .
Abu Minhal Khuza'i narrates from his uncle that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to the people of the tribe of Aslam on the day of Ashura (the tenth of Muharram): "Fast on this day." They said, "We have already eaten and drunk." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then do not eat or drink for the rest of the day."
