حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَعْوَرَ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ , قَالَ قَتَادَةُ : وَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَعْرُوفٌ ، إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ اسْمُهُ زُهَيْرَ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ ، فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا اسْمُهُ ؟ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الْوَلِيمَةُ أَوَّلَ يَوْمٍ حَقٌّ ، وَالثَّانِي مَعْرُوفٌ ، وَالْيَوْمَ الثَّالِثَ سُمْعَةٌ وَرِيَاءٌ " .
Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that there was a well-known person in the tribe of Thaqif whose one eye did not function; his real name was Zuhair bin Uthman. He says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The wedding feast (walimah) is a right; the second meal is a good deed; and feeding on the third day is for fame and show.
