Amr bin Maymoon says that once he was present in the service of Hazrat Umar. He gathered the companions during his life and health and asked them under oath if anyone had heard anything from the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding the inheritance of a grandfather. At this, Hazrat Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said that once an issue of inheritance was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him a third or a sixth share. Hazrat Umar asked, "What was that issue?" He replied, "I do not remember." He said, "Who stopped you from remembering it?"
