حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ , قَالَ : بَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ أُتِيَ بِقَصْعَةٍ فِيهَا ثَرِيدٌ , قَالَ : فَأَكَلَ وَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ القوم يَتَدَاوَلُونَهَا إِلَى قَرِيبٍ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ ، يَأْكُلُ كُلُّ قَوْمٍ ثُمَّ يَقُومُونَ ، وَيَجِيءُ قَوْمٌ فَيَتَعَاقَبُونهُ , قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ : هَلْ كَانَتْ تُمَدُّ بِطَعَامٍ ؟ قَالَ : أَمَّا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَلَا ، إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونَ كَانَتْ تُمَدُّ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a bowl of tharid was brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate from it and the people also ate from it. People kept eating from it until near the time of Zuhr. A group would come and eat, then stand up, and after them another group would come, and this continued. Someone asked, "Is food being continuously added to this bowl?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No one is adding anything to it on the earth, but if blessing has been placed in it from the sky, then that is another matter."
