حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ جَدِّي ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ أَبَرُّ ؟ قَالَ : " أُمَّكَ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ " أُمَّكَ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ : " أُمَّكَ , ثُمَّ أَبَاكَ ، ثُمَّ الْأَقْرَبَ فَالْأَقْرَبَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the court of the Messenger, "O Messenger of Allah! With whom should I do good and show kindness?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "With your mother." I asked the same question three times, and each time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same answer. Upon asking the fourth time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "With your father, then in order of closeness, with your nearest relatives."
