Hadith 20042

It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that once his father or uncle said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Why have my neighbors been seized?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from his statement. This happened twice. Then his father or uncle said, "By Allah! If you were to do so, people would think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." He kept speaking and I was dragging my sheet along as I went, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What was this man saying?" The people informed him that he was saying, "If you were to do so, people would think that you command something and then you yourself violate it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Can people say such a thing? Even if I did so, its effect would be upon me, not upon them. Release his neighbors."
