It is narrated from Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Husain came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Abdul Muttalib was better for his people than you; he used to feed people liver and hump, while you slaughter the same." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him an appropriate reply. He said, "What do you command me to recite?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Say: O Allah! Protect me from the evil of my soul and grant me steadfastness in the deed that is most virtuous." That person went away, and after accepting Islam, he came again and said, "Earlier, when I came to you, you told me to say: O Allah! Protect me from the evil of my soul and grant me steadfastness in the deed that is most virtuous. What should I say now?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Now say: O Allah! Forgive all my sins, those done secretly and openly, by mistake and deliberately, knowingly and unknowingly."
