Abu Nadrah says that once Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by our mosque. I approached him and held the reins of his mount and asked him about the prayer during travel. He said that we set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for Hajj, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to offer two rak‘ahs until the return. Then Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also did the same. For six or eight years, Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) also did the same, but after that, he started offering four rak‘ahs in Mina.
