Hadith 1978

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) once presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at the house of Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Shall we not serve you the food that Umm ‘Afiq has sent us as a gift?" He said, "Why not." So two roasted lizards were brought before us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), upon seeing them, spat to one side. Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Perhaps you dislike it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes!" Then Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Shall I not present to you the milk that has come to us as a gift?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Why not." So a vessel of milk was brought, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it. I was on the right side of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) was on the left side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The right to drink is yours, but if you wish, you may give preference to Khalid bin Walid over yourself." I said, "I cannot give anyone preference over your leftover." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever Allah feeds, let him say this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ» 'O Allah! Bless us in it and provide us with better than it.' And whoever Allah gives milk to drink, let him say this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ» 'O Allah! Bless us in it and increase it for us,' for nothing suffices for both food and drink except milk."
