أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا
بَدْرُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ مَوْلًى لِآلِ عُثْمَانَ قال : حَدَّثَنِي
أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي مُوسَى ، عَن
أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : وَأَتَاهُ سَائِلٌ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلَاةِ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا ،
فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا ، فَأَقَامَ بِالْفَجْرِ حِينَ انْشَقَّ الْفَجْرُ ، وَالنَّاسُ لَا يَكَادُ يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ ، فَأَقَامَ بِالظُّهْرِ حِينَ زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ ، وَالْقَائِلُ يَقُولُ : انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ ، أَوْ : لَمْ يَنْتَصِفْ ، وَكَانَ أَعْلَمَ مِنْهُمْ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ ، فَأَقَامَ بِالْعَصْرِ ، وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ ، فَأَقَامَ بِالْمَغْرِبِ حِينَ وَقَعَتْ الشَّمْسُ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ ، فَأَقَامَ بِالْعِشَاءِ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ ، ثُمَّ أَخَّرَ الْفَجْرَ مِنَ الْغَدِ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ مِنْهَا ، وَالْقَائِلُ يَقُولُ : طَلَعَتْ الشَّمْسُ ، أَوْ : كَادَتْ ، وَأَخَّرَ الظُّهْرَ حَتَّى كَانَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ وَقْتِ الْعَصْرِ بِالْأَمْسِ ، ثُمَّ أَخَّرَ الْعَصْرَ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ مِنْهَا ، وَالْقَائِلُ يَقُولُ : احْمَرَّتْ الشَّمْسُ ، ثُمَّ أَخَّرَ الْمَغْرِبَ حَتَّى كَانَ عِنْدَ سُقُوطِ الشَّفَقِ ، وَأَخَّرَ الْعِشَاءَ حَتَّى كَانَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ ، فَدَعَا السَّائِلَ ، فَقَالَ : " الْوَقْتُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about the timings of prayer. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give him any answer, but rather ordered Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), who gave the iqamah for Fajr when dawn had broken and people could not recognize each other. Then he ordered him, and he gave the iqamah for Zuhr when the sun had declined, and some said that half the day had passed, while others said it had not, but he knew better. Then he ordered him, and he gave the iqamah for Asr when the sun was still bright. Then he ordered him, and he gave the iqamah for Maghrib when the sun had set. Then he ordered him, and he gave the iqamah for Isha when the twilight had disappeared. Then on the next day, he delayed Fajr so much that when the prayer was finished, people began to say that the sun was about to rise. He delayed Zuhr so much that it was close to the previous day's Asr. He delayed Asr so much that after the prayer people began to say that the sun had turned red. He delayed Maghrib until the disappearance of the twilight, and Isha until the first third of the night. Then he called the questioner and said, "The time for prayer is between these two times."
