It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) on a military expedition. Coincidentally, it was a Friday. He let his companions go ahead, thinking that he would stay behind and perform the Friday prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then join them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he said: "What prevented you from setting out with your companions in the morning?" He replied, "I thought I would perform the Friday prayer with you and then join them." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if you were to spend all the treasures of the earth, you would not attain the merit of their morning."
