It is narrated from Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) that I said to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): O Prophet of Allah! We are hunters. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When any one of you shoots an arrow at the game, let him take the name of Allah. If the game dies from that arrow, then eat it. But if it falls into water and dies, then do not eat it, because it is possible that it died because of the water. And if after one or two days you find your arrow in a game and there is no mark of another's arrow on it, then if you wish, eat it. And if a hunting dog is released, then take the name of Allah, and if you find the game dead, then eat it. But if the dog has eaten from it, then do not eat it, because it hunted for itself, not for its master. And if he released his dog and with it there were other dogs with whom the name of Allah was not taken, then do not eat it, because you do not know which of the dogs killed it.
A person says: I said to Hazrat Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have heard a hadith from you, but I want to hear it directly from you. He said: Very well... Then the narrator mentioned the whole hadith and said: Are you not among the "Rakusiyyah" who eat a quarter of the spoils of their people? I said: Why not? The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Although it is not lawful in your religion. Whatever the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said after this, I submitted to it... Then the narrator mentioned the whole hadith.
