حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ، قَالَ : أَصَابَنِي رَمَدٌ ، فَعَادَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا بَرَأْتُ خَرَجْتُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَتْ عَيْنَاكَ لِمَا بِهِمَا مَا كُنْتَ صَانِعًا ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : لَوْ كَانَتَا عَيْنَايَ لِمَا بِهِمَا ، صَبَرْتُ وَاحْتَسَبْتُ ، قَالَ : لَوْ كَانَتْ عَيْنَاكَ لِمَا بِهِمَا ، ثُمَّ صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ ، لَلَقِيتَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلَا ذَنْبَ لَكَ ، قَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ : ثُمَّ صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ ، لَأَوْجَبَ اللَّهُ لَكَ الْجَنَّةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I suffered from an eye ailment, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit me. When I recovered, I went out of the house. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Tell me, if your eyes had remained in that condition, what would you have done?" I replied, "If my eyes had remained like that, I would have been patient with the intention of reward." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then you would have met Allah in such a state that you would have had no sin."
