حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : قُلْنَا لِزَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ : حَدِّثْنَا ، قَالَ : كَبُرْنَا وَنَسِينَا ، وَالْحَدِيثُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَدِيدٌ .
Ibn Abi Layla says that when we would go to Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and request him to narrate a hadith, he would say that we have grown old and have forgotten, and narrating a hadith from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a very difficult task.
