حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : كَانَ زَيْدٌ يُكَبِّرُ عَلَى جَنَائِزِنَا أَرْبَعًا ، وَأَنَّهُ كَبَّرَ عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ خَمْسًا ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَبِّرُهَا .
Ibn Abi Layla (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say four takbirs over our funerals. On one occasion, he said five takbirs over a funeral. People asked him about this, so he replied that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes also say five takbirs.
