حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي رَمْلَةَ الشَّامِيِّ ، قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ سَأَلَ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ : شَهِدْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِيدَيْنِ اجْتَمَعَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، صَلَّى الْعِيدَ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ ، ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُجَمِّعَ ، فَلْيُجَمِّعْ " .
Iyas bin Abi Ramla al-Shami says that once I was present with Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did you ever witness Eid with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a Friday?" He replied, "Yes! On that occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Eid prayer in the early part of the day and gave permission to those coming from outside to be excused from Jumu'ah, and said, 'Whoever wishes may return after offering Jumu'ah.'"
