حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : قُلْنَا لِزَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ : حَدِّثْنَا ، قَالَ : كَبُرْنَا ، وَنَسِينَا ، وَالْحَدِيثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَدِيدٌ .
Ibn Abi Layla says that when we would go to Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and request him to narrate a hadith, he would say that we have grown old and have forgotten, and narrating a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is a very difficult task.
