حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، وَأَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ، قَالَ : لَقَدْ كُنَّا نَقْرَأُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ كَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَفِضَّةٍ ، لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا آخَرَ ، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ بَطْنَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the early period of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to recite (that which was later abrogated): If the son of Adam were to possess two valleys of gold and silver, he would desire a third one, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. However, whoever repents, Allah turns towards him.
