وَمِنْ حَدِيثِ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَAnd from the hadith of Jarir ibn Abdullah from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ " بَالَ وَتَوَضَّأَ ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : فَقَالَ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُهُ " . قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ : كَانَ أَعْجَبَ ذَاكَ إِلَيْهِمْ ، لَأَنَّ إِسْلَامَ جَرِيرٍ كَانَ بَعْدَ الْمَائِدَةِ.
Hammam says that once Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated, performed ablution, and wiped over his socks. Someone said to him, "How are you wiping over your socks when you have just urinated?" He replied, "Yes! I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) urinate, perform ablution, and wipe over his socks." Ibrahim says that the scholars of hadith give great importance to this hadith because Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam after the revelation of Surah Al-Ma'idah (in which is the verse of ablution).
