Imam Zain al-Abidin, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, may Allah be pleased with him, when those people reached Madinah Munawwarah from Yazid, Hazrat Muswar bin Makhramah, may Allah be pleased with him, met them and said, "If you need anything from me, let me know?" I said, "No." He said, "Can you give me the sword of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, because I fear that people may overpower you. By Allah, if you give it to me, then only someone who passes through my life will be able to reach it."
Once, Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, (in the presence of Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her) sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl and made a promise of marriage. Upon this, Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, came to the service of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "The people of your tribe are saying among themselves that you do not even get angry in matters concerning your daughters, because Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, has sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl." Hearing this, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood among the noble companions, may Allah be pleased with them, praised and glorified Allah, and said, "Fatimah is a part of me. I do not like that she should be put to trial." Then the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned his elder son-in-law, Hazrat Abu al-As bin al-Rabi', may Allah be pleased with him, and praised him greatly. Then he said, "I do not make any lawful thing unlawful, nor any unlawful thing lawful, but the daughter of the Prophet of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah cannot be united in the marriage of one man." Thus, Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, abandoned this idea.
