It is narrated from Hazrat Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl (in the presence of Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her) and made a promise of marriage. Upon this, Hazrat Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "The people of your tribe are saying among themselves that you do not even get angry in matters concerning your daughters, because Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) has sent a marriage proposal to the daughter of Abu Jahl." Hearing this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), praised and glorified Allah, and said, "Fatimah is a part of me. I do not like that she should be put to trial." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned his elder son-in-law Hazrat Abul Aas bin Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) and praised him greatly. Then he said, "The daughter of the Prophet of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah cannot be united in the marriage of one man." Thus, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) abandoned this idea.
