حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًَا يُقَالُ لَهُ : سُوَيْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ ، فَنَهَاهُ عَنْهَا ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّما أَصْنَعُهَا لِلدَّوَاءِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهَا دَاءٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِدَوَاءٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Tariq bin Suwaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that I submitted in the court of Prophethood, "O Messenger of Allah! We live in a region of grapes; can we extract them (and drink their wine)?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No." I repeated my question, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "No." I submitted, "Can we give it to a patient as a treatment?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There is no cure in it; rather, it is pure disease."
