Abu Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) whether if a man attacks the polytheists on his own initiative, is he the person about whom it is said in the Quran that he has thrown himself into destruction? He replied, "No, because Allah Almighty sent His Prophet and commanded him to strive in the way of Allah. You are only responsible for your own self, whereas this verse is related to spending (in the way of Allah)."
