It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyidah Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was given the option of emancipation (and according to that, she separated from her husband Mughith), I saw her husband following her in the streets of Madinah, his tears flowing down his beard. People asked Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) to speak to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her), "He is your husband." Sayyidah Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Are you commanding me regarding him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I am only interceding," and he gave her the choice, so she chose herself. The husband of Sayyidah Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a slave of the family of Mughira, whose name was Mughith.
