حَدِيثُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَHadith of al-Nu‘man ibn Bashir from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، سَمِعَهُ مِنْ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَثَلُ الْمُدَّهِنِ وَالْوَاقِعِ فِي حُدُودِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً : الْقَائِمِ فِي حُدُودِ اللَّهِ مَثَلُ ثَلَاثَةٍ رَكِبُوا فِي سَفِينَةٍ ، فَصَارَ لِأَحَدِهِمْ أَسْفَلُهَا وَأَوْعَرُهَا وَشَرُّهَا ، فَكَانَ يَخْتَلِفُ ، وَثَقُلَ عَلَيْهِ كُلَّمَا مَرَّ ، فَقَالَ : أَخْرِقُ خَرْقًا يَكُونُ أَهْوَنَ عَلَيَّ ، وَلَا يَكُونُ مُخْتَلَفِي عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : إِنَّمَا يَخْرِقُ فِي نَصِيبِهِ ، وَقَالَ آخَرُونَ : لَا ، فَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى يَدَيْهِ ، نَجَا وَنَجَوْا ، وَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُ هَلَكَ وَهَلَكُوا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift, then his father went to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to be a witness to it. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to him?" He replied, "No." So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not make me a witness to this, for I cannot be a witness to injustice."
