Hadith 18316

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ جَدِّ أَبِيهِ الْمُخَارِقِ ، قَالَ : لَقِيتُ عَمَّارًا يَوْمَ الْجَمَلِ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فِي قَرْنٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : أُقَاتِلُ مَعَكَ فَأَكُونُ مَعَكَ ؟ قَالَ : قَاتِلْ تَحْتَ رَايَةِ قَوْمِكَ ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَسْتَحِبُّ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يُقَاتِلَ تَحْتَ رَايَةِ قَوْمِهِ " .
Mukhariq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that on the day of the Battle of Jamal, I met Hazrat Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was urinating in a horn. I asked him, "Can I fight in your company so that I may attain your companionship?" He replied, "Fight under the flag of your own people, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked that a person should fight under the flag of his own people."
