Hadith 18202

Ali bin Rabi’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out of his house and, after ascending the pulpit and praising Allah, said: “What is this wailing in Islam? In fact, an Ansari had passed away and there was wailing over him. I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Lying upon me is not like lying upon an ordinary person. Beware! Whoever deliberately lies upon me should prepare his abode in Hell.’ I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘The person over whom wailing is done is punished because of that wailing.’”
