حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ امْرَأَةً أَخْطُبُهَا ، فَقَالَ : " اذْهَبْ فَانْظُرْ إِلَيْهَا ، فَإِنَّهُ أَجْدَرُ أَنْ يُؤْدَمَ بَيْنَكُمَا " . قَالَ : فَأَتَيْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، فَخَطَبْتُهَا إِلَى أَبَوَيْهَا ، وَأَخْبَرْتُهُمَا بِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكَأَنَّهُمَا كَرِهَا ذَلِكَ ، قَال : فَسَمِعَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ وَهِيَ فِي خِدْرِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَنْظُرَ ، فَانْظُرْ ، وَإِلَّا فَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ ، كَأَنَّهَا أَعْظَمَتْ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ : فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهَا فَتَزَوَّجْتُهَا ، فَذَكَرَ مِنْ مُوَافَقَتِهَا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I wish to marry such-and-such woman." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go and look at her first, for this will increase love between you." So I went to a woman from the Ansar and sent a proposal to her parents and also conveyed the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Apparently, they did not like it, but the woman heard this from behind the veil and said, "If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has ordered you to look, then you may look. If you do not do so, then I adjure you by Allah." She considered this matter very significant, so I looked at her and married her. Then he mentioned his agreement with her.
